Building it
There are three components to building this project
- The hardware using an Adafruit Feather HUZZAH ESP8266
- The software to run on the HUZZAH
- Either the web based interface, or the iOS app
A guide is provided for each of these components. Here are some things that you should be a bit familiar with:
- For this to work, your WiFi network must be accessible where you intend to install the HUZZAH.
- You will need the SSID and password for your WiFi network (you do have a password on your network, right?)
- If you intend to include the open/close capability, your hardwired garage door opener will likely be different from the two I have. You may have a normally open circuit, a normally closed, or some digital interface I don't know about. Fortunately, the relay modules usually have both normally open and normally closed terminals on the relays. You may have to do some poking about to figure out how to wire the relay your garage door opener. I have experience with two brand/models and don't know anything about other brands and models.
